Evolve a Cell Jaws

Learn what is verified about jaws in Evolve a Cell and how to test close-contact use, placement, cost, reach, and build fit.

Jaws are one of the body parts named in the official Evolve a Cell description. Community walkthroughs associate them with biting and close-range hunting, but the developer does not publish damage, reach, cost, collision, attack timing, stacking, or unlock requirements. Use the current part card and controlled contact tests before building around them.

Read the live jaws card

Record the exact displayed name, category, effect text, cost, requirement, and any input or condition. Check whether jaws arrive with a diet choice, unlock later, or are purchased through the build screen in your current run. Different accounts or versions may show different routes.

Do not turn an animation into a stat. A visible bite can confirm an action occurred without proving the damage amount, cooldown, healing, food conversion, or eligibility against every target.

Place jaws for a controlled approach

Start with a clear front-facing placement so you know which edge of the creature should meet the target. Keep the silhouette simple enough to see orientation. Approach from open water, make one contact attempt, and leave rather than holding forward through an unreadable collision.

After the baseline works, move the jaws and repeat the same action. If direction changes the result, record the body shape and target position. Do not assume the rule applies to every jaw type or later update.

Test bite behavior safely

Use an appropriate, clearly identified target and avoid another player until ordinary contact is understandable. Record approach speed, contact point, visible feedback, target reaction, your health, and the ability to disengage. Repeat several times before describing a result.

Against players, size, movement, latency, other parts, tree choices, and mutations can obscure the cause. Report a PvP result as a build test, not a universal jaw value.

Decide whether jaws fit the build

A carnivore or close-contact build may value jaws if the current description supports hunting. The part still needs movement and an exit; contact value is wasted when the cell cannot choose or leave an engagement. A plant-focused route should not add jaws merely because community guides call them strong.

Compare the full cost of the setup, not only the part. If the build needs extra movement, protection, recovery, or tree investment to make contact safe, include those dependencies. See the Carnivore Build and PvP Build for role-based testing.

Check copies and stacking

One community example can show several jaws on a creature without proving linear stacking. Add a second copy only after recording the first. Repeat the same target and approach. Look for a clear change in contact count, reach, damage feedback, cost, movement, or control.

If the result is inconsistent, label stacking unknown. Body shape and collision may change at the same time as the copy count, so avoid a precise multiplier without stronger evidence.

Recover from common jaw mistakes

Do not chase a target into crowded water because the first bite connected. Stop when the target reaches other cells, your exit closes, or your movement option is unavailable. Do not open the build interface in traffic to reposition a jaw.

If contact fails, diagnose direction, reach, target eligibility, cooldown, and relative movement before buying another copy. More jaws cannot fix an approach that never reaches the intended edge.

Run a safe jaw comparison

Use two short routes through the same quiet area. Complete the first route with your current layout, then add or reposition one jaw and repeat without changing the rest of the creature. Record turning, approach angle, visible contact feedback, recovery time, and whether the target was actually eligible. A result from one crowded fight cannot isolate the jaw from lag, size, another part, or another player. If the live card shows a level, cost, or effect, copy its exact wording and check date rather than converting it into an unsupported damage number. This comparison is more useful than copying a dramatic multi-jaw build whose conditions are unknown.

Jaws FAQ

Are jaws officially in Evolve a Cell?

Yes. The official description names jaws as an addable part.

How much damage do jaws do?

No stable official value is published. Read the current effect and test on the same version.

Are jaws only for carnivores?

The public description does not state a restriction. Community play links them to hunting, but the current diet and part rules decide.

Can multiple jaws stack?

That requires controlled in-game testing. Do not infer a multiplier from a multi-jaw screenshot.
